What would the World say?
Why does Indonesia import rice,
fruits, salt and fishes when it has expansive lands and oceans that are able to
be utilized?
No one can deny that
Indonesian lands and oceans are vast and that in theory, Indonesia should be
able to produce enough rice, fruits, salt and fishes for its people at affordable
prices. But the reality begs to differ.
That is why blaming imports
without understanding the problem correctly would only cause further harm to us. But, it is true that we need to make some
adjustments in order to stop imports.
The question is do we have
to stop our imports while maintaining, or even increasing, our exports? If so, then what would the World say (about International Trade)?
